Dr. Ludo Van Den Bosch is a Professor at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) and Group Leader at VIB, where he directs research at the intersection of neurobiology and neurodegeneration. His work focuses on the causes, mechanisms, and therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Dr. Van Den Bosch has been instrumental in developing in vitro motor neuron models, functional human neuromuscular junctions, and zebrafish models for ALS research, translating laboratory findings into biomarker development and treatment approaches.
A recognized leader in the field, Dr. Van Den Bosch has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Prize Generet for Rare Diseases and the Ernest Solvay Prize. He is also the founder of Augustine Therapeutics, a biotechnology spin-off focused on novel therapies for neurodegenerative disorders.
